Membership
and Baptism
If you are interested
in becoming a member of First Church, please speak to the pastor or
call the church office. Your decision to join is all that is required;
however, an orientation session is held twice a year to help your
decision about church membership. If you are interested in baptism
for your child or yourself, please call the church office to arrange
a consultation.
Educational
Opportunities
We take our religious
education seriously. First Church is known as a teaching church throughout
the state. Our leadership in this field has produced curriculum that
has been used nationally by churches in our denomination. We are innovators
of the "Learning Community" concept. This is generational
based learning that spans the lifetime of our members. Our Learning
Community begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, September to May.
Classes are divided as follows:
Preschool:
3-4 Year Olds
Kindergarten: 5-6 Year Olds
Juniors: 7-8 Year Olds
Middlers: 9-10 Year Olds
Intermediate: 11-12 Year Olds
Confirmation 1: 13-14 Year Olds
Confirmation 2: 15-16 Year Olds
Pastor's Class: 17 and Up
We believe that the primary Christian educators are parents, and
we are dedicated to giving them the skills to accomplish their tasks.
Ongoing parenting programs are offered, and inter-generational experiences
are encouraged.
Marriage
First Church
performs the Rite of Marriage for couples completing pre-marital
counseling with the pastor, at least four months prior to the wedding
date. The Meeting Hall is available for rental, as is the garden
gazebo for summer outdoor weddings. Please call the church office
for availability.
Music
First Congregational
UCC has a rich music tradition. In addition to the music that enhances
the Sunday morning worship experience, there have also been special
music presentations which include a Christmas and Easter cantata,
and a Spaghetti & Song evening in May. The Chancel Choir is
open to those adults who enjoy singing and wish to be part of a
choral group. The choir rehearses Wednesday evenings, 7:30 - 9:00
p.m. in the Meeting Hall. The Youth Choir for kindergarten through
7th graders rehearses after church on Sundays. The Director of Music
will happily provide information.
